In her first post–30 Rock big-screen role, Tina Fey plays a Princeton admissions officer whose life is thrown into disarray when an old classmate (Paul Rudd) tells her one of his high school students may be the child she gave up for adoption. Though the film is essentially a romantic comedy, Fey’s role has dramatic weight to it. ”It was certainly a challenge for me to try to do acting — real acting,” she told EW last year. ”[My husband] Jeff kept telling me every day, ‘Don’t forget to do acting.’ ” Director Paul Weitz never doubted that she could pull it off: ”Playing someone who is thrust into motherhood for the first time seemed like a wonderful step for her.”
