NBC orders 'Meatballs'-like summer camp series
NBC is sending viewers to Camp this summer.
The network has ordered 13 episodes of a new series following teen antics at a lake-side summer camp. The network describes Camp as “in the tradition of Meatballs and Dazed and Confused.” The show will also track the teens’ parents as they try to decompress for the summer.
“In our desire to make summer an exciting place at NBC along with our signature unscripted shows like America’s Got Talent, The Voice and American Ninja Warrior, we developed a scripted dramedy we love with BermanBraun that has rich and dysfunctional characters in that great setting where millions of families and young people go each summer: camp,” said Jennifer Salke, president, NBC Entertainment. “This show … is sophisticated, funny, and emotional, and we think it will be the ideal summer series for us.”
The series will be shot in Australia, with the camp in the show described as a “slice of heaven.” The show is created and produced by Liz Heldens (Friday Night Lights) and Peter Elkoff (Gossip Girl).
