12 returning favorites: 'Spartacus: War Of The Damned'
Final Season Premieres: January 25, 9PM, Starz
As the slave rebellion prepares for its final confrontation with the Roman Empire, Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight has ramped up the spectacle to new heights of CG-enabled epicness, while adding two key villains who just might escort the series to a spin-off afterlife. Look for more gushing wounds and titillating threesomes, though Sparty (Liam McIntyre) is less angst-ridden after getting vengeance for his wife’s death in season 2. ”He’s pushed the hand-wringing emotions aside, he’s no longer questioning what he’s doing,” DeKnight says. Hot on his trail are Roman legends Marcus Crassus (Simon Merrells) and — hey, why not? — a young Julius Caesar (Todd Lasance, who’s got a bit of a Brad Pitt-in-Troy thing going on). Sure, we all know how this story ends, but DeKnight promises his series finale will have even the toughest fans crying hot man-tears: ”We will have you weeping on your sofa.”
