Fiona (Emmy Rossum) may have finally gotten her GED at the end of last season, but don’t expect a watered-down Shameless: The College Years. ”This season the show will be in its purest form,” says exec producer Mark Mylod. ”That means a lot of outrageous things that will be simultaneously heartbreaking and hilarious.” The series, about a broke family who barely scrapes by in spite of a drunk deadbeat dad, will even find pseudo-patriarch Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) inching closer to his sons in season 3. ”We found a way for Frank to explore genuine feelings of love and connection, but without becoming too gooey,” Mylod explains. Of course, the show will also live up to its name, offering twisted takes on mental retardation, gay rights, cancer camp, and what Mylod refers to as ”ghetto IVF.” ”We’ll probably be damned, and there’ll be forks of lightning striking my house from above,” worries Mylod. ”But it’s funny as f—.”
