Scorsese to direct Bill Clinton doc for HBO
The United States’s 42nd president is finally getting his close-up.
HBO announced today that Martin Scorsese will direct and produce a documentary about Bill Clinton for the cable channel. This will be the Oscar winner’s fourth collaboration with HBO; Scorsese helmed a pair of HBO documentaries in 2011 and 2010, as well as the pilot of Boardwalk Empire the latter year. The new film will be made with Clinton’s full cooperation — much like 41, the HBO doc about George H.W. Bush that premiered last summer.
“A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world,” Scorsese said in a statement. “Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.”
“I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film,” President Clinton added. “I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as President, and my work in the years since, with HBO’s audience.”
An airdate and a title for the documentary have not yet been announced.
