will.i.am feat. Britney Spears ”Scream & Shout”
Weird in all the right ways. Brit puts on her best (not bad!) British accent, and the Black Eyed Pea and producer Lazy Jay give her a quirky restless-leg Eurobeat to ride. The track’s spin-class-on-Mars pulse is really just an excuse to drop in that it’s ”Britney, bitch” a few more times. Never gets old. Never! BRay Rahman

Ashlee Simpson ”Bat for a Heart” You can judge a pop star’s relevance by the quality of the singles she’s offered from songwriter Linda Perry. Pink seems to get first pick of the great ones, and Ashlee Simpson gets the leftovers, including this sad-synthesizer heavy-breather, which is so low-energy in its bad-girl sex appeal (”I’m gonna…f— you up,” she gasps over strangely muffled police sirens), it all feels a little bit forced. ”I know you want it now/Want it now/Want it now,” Simpson whines. Um, maybe later? CMelissa Maerz
