“Where’s Nucky Thompson?”

It’s a question a lot of Boardwalk Empire‘s characters have asked while Atlantic City’s puppetmaster fell in love and off the radar. A vengeful Nucky set the stage for Boardwalk‘s season 3 finale a few weeks back by issuing a “You’re either with me or against me” war declaration against psychotic nemesis Gyp Rosetti (Bobby Cannavale) and his associates.

Below, watch a new promo for the finale that offers more questions than answers. What it delivers most on, though, is guns. Tons and tons of guns.

Will Nucky’s aggression be his downfall? Or will unlikely allies come to his aid? We know from history books that there are big things in store for Al Capone (Stephen Graham) — might his rise coincide with Gyp’s fall? What is this sacrificial “way out” Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg) has devised? Will writers finally compensate for the shameful under-use of Chalky White (Michael K. Williams) and Dunn Purnsley (Erik LaRay Harvey) this season? And, when the smoke clears, might it be cutthroat madam Gillian (Gretchen Mol) who capitalizes on the men’s hubris and emerges on top?

These are just a few of the questions that will — hopefully — be answered when Boardwalk Empire‘s finale airs Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
