Hostess, the beloved maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, announced this morning that it will file for bankruptcy, liquidate its assets, and lay off over 18,000 employees. That’s great news, right? It certainly is for the internet, because now anonymous users can turn it into memes! You know, memes – like Scumbag Steve and Socially Awkward Penguin and my personal favorite, Insanity Wolf. The news only broke a few hours ago – which in internet time is like a trillion years or something – but the pithy Hostess jokes are starting to roll in already. A few of our favorites include:

1. Bad Luck Brian, a poor sap who would really just love a Twinkie already

2. A girl who isn’t taking the news so well

3. Slowpoke, who’s just catching wind of the bad news

4. A slideshow rounding up snarky celebrity reactions on Twitter

In addition to all this riff raff, be sure to check out comedy writer Seanbaby’s collection of Hostess ads from comic books in the ’70s and ’80s. Twinkies are starting to sell for thousands of dollars, so it’s only a matter of time before the ads themselves are collectors’ items.
