Taylor Swift has a message for John Mayer, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal and more: Don’t send her angry emails.

Swift is on Ellen this afternoon, and in the preview clip below, she talks about trying to maintain “a shred of dignity” by not specifically naming names on songs about ex-boyfriends – because otherwise they’ll send her angry emails. Ellen DeGeneres teased her for awhile about Zac Efron – the two sang a very cute duet together when Swift was last on the program – but Swift insists they never dated, like ever. She was similarly tight-lipped about who “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was about.

DeGeneres tried to solve the mystery, handing Swift a bell and telling her to ring it when the picture of the guy it’s about came up. She then showed pics of Joe Jonas, Justin Bieber, Mayer and others, but Swift remained silent.

Swift got introspective after many pictures, wondering what so many photos said about the length of her relationships. “There’s never been two guys on the screen two visits in a row,” she said. “It’s sad.”

She should write a song about it.

Check out the interrogation – complete with some telling silence after Cory Monteith’s picture – below:
