The Song Barbarossa, ”Bloodline”

The Scene The title of the U.K. songwriter’s moody ballad was apt for an episode about family — not just the (spoiler alert, slow-to-watch-your-DVR people!) murderous twin behind Oct. 4’s whodunit but also the growing bond between Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Joan Watson (Lucy Liu).

The Song Lord Huron, ”I Will Be Back One Day”

The Scene During an Oct. 14 tête-à-tête between Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) and Amanda Clarke (Margarita Levieva) — the clingy, crafty con artist with whom she swapped identities — the title of this sinewy acoustic rocker served as a reminder of the futility of trying to escape one’s past.

The Song The Lumineers, ”Flowers in Your Hair”

The Scene The Denver folkies’ sweet ditty about growing up and into love set the stage for a darkroom kiss between Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Hank (Ray Romano) on Oct. 9. And that jangling tambourine? Sorry, Mark (Jason Ritter) — we believe that’s the sound of your romantic competition heating up.

The Mindy Project
The Song Trey Songz feat. T.I., ”2 Reasons”

The Scene Trey and T.I.’s bottle-popper provided the backdrop for an all-staff clubbing night in Oct. 9’s ep — which found Dr. Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) talking rom-coms with real-life NBA stars in VIP, and Dr. Danny Castellano (Chris Messina) showing his lip-biting man moves on the dance floor.

Hell on Wheels
The Song Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, ”Devil’s Waitin”’

The Scene The sense of fatalism underpinning the San Francisco rockers’ strummy dirge fit the somber mood as Cullen (Anson Mount) carried the lifeless body of Lily (Dominique McElligott) through town in the Oct. 7 season finale. We can only hope she’s not headed where the song’s title implies.

The Song Icky Blossoms, ”Babes”

The Scene Were the Omaha electro-rockers picturing Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) when they wrote this breathy bumper? Even though the song played over a party scene in the Oct. 10 pilot, it totally could have sound-tracked the hunky billionaire–slash–secret vigilante’s shirtless training montage.

Episode Recaps
