Confirming weeks of media reports, Fox announced Tuesday that Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian have signed on to host The X-Factor.

The Extra host and star of E!’s Keeping Up with The Kardashians will begin appearing on the reality competition midway through its current second season run, joining judges Britney Spears, L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell. Lopez and Kardashian will start on the show in time for the show’s switch from taped to live episodes next month.

The X-Factor has been performing quite solidly in the ratings this fall, though NBC’s The Voice continues to perform even stronger. Going with the Kardashian brand could be seen as a needless risk for a mere host role on the show, since the popular E! series is pretty polarizing among some TV fans. In a way, combining the two hosts almost makes a Frankenstein version of Ryan Seacrest — part celebrity news show host, part E! personality.

Here’s three canned quotes that tell you amazingly little:

“The worst kept secret in Hollywood is out,” said Simon Cowell. “Mario and Khloé are our hosts. They will debut on our first live show in November and I couldn’t be happier.”

“I’m so thrilled to become a part of The X-Factor family,” Kardashian said. “I’ve been a big fan of the show and look forward to working with Simon and all of the judges. It’s going to be so much fun!”

“I’m very excited to be joining The X-Factor team,” Lopez said. “I love the show, and I’ve been a big fan of Simon Cowell and the judges for a long time. Khloé and I have been friends for years and I know we’ll be a great team and have a blast.”
