Willie Geist was officially appointed co-host of the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s Today this morning.

Geist, who regularly filled in for Matt Lauer this year, is currently the host of the 5:30 a.m. newscast Way Too Early and a co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe from 6 to 9 a.m. (Geist will continue co-hosting the first hour of Joe.)

Geist will officially begin on Nov. 12., ostensibly taking the spot that Savannah Guthrie had before she was promoted to co-host with Lauer.

“I do expect there will be some Halloween hazing, although they won’t tell me what it is yet,” Geist told The New York Times, referring to the show’s upcoming Halloween episode. Maybe he can dress as Ann Curry this year! Too soon?
