Bristol Palin's partner explains brawl on Dancing with the Stars
Bristol Palin not only posted the lowest scores during Monday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars but she also showed her pouty (and hurt) side during one of the pre-taped segments: She accused Mark Ballas of “being bummed” that he isn’t dancing with former partners Shawn Johnson and Sabrina Bryan, and that he’s emotionally — and sometimes physically — absent during what should be their rehearsal time.
“I swear it God I feel like you want to go home,” she said to Ballas in the segment while crying. Ballas touched her leg in an attempt to comfort her, but Palin left the studio. The entire argument aired right before the couple’s paso doble, which was a massive improvement over their previous two dances but only earned a 22.5 out of a possible 30. (Judge Len Goodman did, however, say it had “aggression,” the “most content I’ve seen in any dance you’ve done” and “easily your best dance.”)
Afterwards, Ballas tried to downplay the on-camera feud.
“Here’s the thing with these packages they show before our dance … they’re a minute and a half,” Ballas told reporters after the show. “We then also had Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday which went beautifully. We left the studio to take a break, came in the next day and we were like, aaah, let’s move on and really knock it out, try to turn in the best performance we’ve had this season. We did just that. We’re fine. We’ve danced together before. This isn’t our first season together. The last season we did together, back in season 11, we didn’t argue once. Not even … nothing. Just chill. So the fact that we’ve made it through a season and a quarter and now it’s our first fight? It’s amazing because at some point you fight with your partner.
“We’re like family,” he continued. “We love each other. Sometimes people piss each other off. You guys know if you’re in a personal relationship, working relationship, things happen and we carried on.”
Added Palin, “Mark is reassuring and we got through this week and I’m thankful for it. I’m thankful that we got that fight out of the way and we’re just moving along.”
As for Palin’s comment about wanting to dance with one of his other previous partners, Ballas had this to say: “Those are two different seasons for me, season five and season eight. We’re in season 15 now. I’m not looking back. I’m not trying to look back. I’m here with Bristol. I’m focused. We’re working together; we get along great. We had one rough day in however many, many days we’ve been together.”
Palin also had this to say about a report indicating a suspicious package had been sent to her: “I didn’t really hear about it. I’ve been in Arizona but we’re protected here. We feel safe. I’m tough. They saw me shoot a gun last week!”
