'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles': New clip shows off updated weapons -- EXCLUSIVE
Bust out some pizza slices (no anchovies!), because the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are finally back!
Each Turtle gets to show off their weapon of choice in the clip, but since these guys are as Teenage as they are Ninja, they also have to sit through a lecture with their sensei, Splinter. Take a look below:
So, which member of the new Turtles cast — Jason Biggs (Leonardo), Sean Astin (Raphael), Greg Cipes (Michelangelo), and Rob Paulsen (Donatello) — do you like best? Don’t lie, because they’ll find out.
“I don’t know if it’s because people know it’s my character, but people are always telling me that Raphael is their favorite,” Astin tells EW. “And then I’m like, ‘I just heard you say that to the next Turtle!'”
Of course, they’re not the only ones to take note of — Mae Whitman plays the new April O’Neil, who is perhaps the biggest change in Nickelodeon’s update.
“She’s younger in this one,” Whitman says. “She’s a teenager, so she’s [the Turtles’] age now, which is really cool. And she’s sort of the one constant human element in the show.”
And female one, series EP Ciro Nieli notes. “It was really important that I made a show that appealed to boys and girls equally,” Nieli tells us. “So I saw April as this great opportunity to not just do a girl character that’s a little bit different and offbeat, but also stronger than she was previously. In the [original] cartoon, she was kind of a damsel-in-distress to a fault. But what I saw her as at the time was an above-ground Splinter: If he was underneath the surface in the sewers teaching them everything they knew about ninjutsu and the Ninja Clan Code, April served as his counterpart to show them around the surface world, and how New York City works. She’s at that age where the city’s full of promise, and she’s got control of it. She’s a powerful young girl.”
Looks like we’ll have a lot to chew on when the series premieres this weekend! What are your guys’ thoughts on the new Turtles? Let us know in the comments.Read more:
