'Gangnam Style' No. 2 song in the country
- Music
Hey, sexy ladies, it looks like we have a new "Macarena" on our hands.
Korean rapper PSY became a viral sensation with his ridiculous(ly awesome) video for "Gangnam Style," which has already been viewed 285 million times since July. This week, the song jumped from No. 11 to No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100. It's now perilously close to being the most popular song in the U.S. Is that something we're all on board with? I'm just wondering.
"Gangnam Style" was downloaded 301,000 times (a 69 percent increase) last week, and it shifted from a canter to a gallop at radio, too. Thanks to its novelty appeal and dance-friendly, LMFAO-esque sound, the song increased 79 percent and jumped 68-34 on the Radio Songs chart. It's not showing signs of slowing down.
In fact, current chart topper, "One More Night" by Maroon 5, may get kicked out of the No. 1 spot quite soon.
According to Billboard, "With 'Style' up by 67 percent in overall Hot 100 points and 'Night' gaining by 12 percent, and the points gap between the two songs tight this week, the stage could be set for PSY to trot into the chart's winner's circle as soon as next week." We'll find out if the song can reach the summit the weeks to come!
In other chart news, Christina Aguilera's "Your Body" debuted relatively soft at No. 34. The lead single off her upcoming fifth album Lotus was downloaded 103,000 times in its first week. Do you think it has the potential to become a real hit?
