Actress Mindy Kaling, who plays the ultimate single girl in her new series The Mindy Project, channeled Marge Simpson — the most iconic sitcom mom — for Glamour. From the sky-high blue hair to the lime green mini, Kaling embraced the role of the Simpson matriarch.

“Marge Simpson is the one who’s really funny,” she told Glamour. “Her character looks so crazy, but then she’s supposed to be totally demure. I think [Simpsons creator] Matt Groening is a genius for giving her that hair.”

Kaling, who is a lead writer and performer on Mindy (premiering Sept. 25 on FOX) and assumed the same double role for The Office until earlier this year, is as funny as Marge. But let’s just hope that her real life leading man is no Homer.
