Jamie Lee Curtis, Rob Reiner to play Jess' parents on 'New Girl'
New Girl fans will have at least one thing to be thankful for come Thanksgiving: They will finally get to meet the two people biologically responsible for the wacky wonder that is Jess (Zooey Deschanel). EW has learned that actress/author Jamie Lee Curtis and actor/director/producer Rob Reiner will assume the roles of her divorced parents, Joan and Bob, who cross paths again in the loft at Thanksgiving. Jess is not happy that they are not together, and uses the holiday to try to romantically reunite them in what’s being described as a “Parent Trap.” (What could go wrong? See: last year’s dryer turkey and corpse special.)
Curtis, who appeared on NCIS last season, is married to Christopher Guest, who starred in Reiner’s classic mockumentary This is Spinal Tap. The episode, which airs in November, will also feature Rob Riggle as Schmidt’s cousin named… Schmidt, reports TVLine.
In other New Girl news, Carla Gugino will play Schmidt’s new boss with benefits this fall. Season 2 debuts Sept. 25 on Fox, with Parker Posey guesting in the first episode at 8 p.m. and Josh Gad appearing in the second one at 9 p.m.
Zooey Deschanel plays lovable Jess, who is plodding through life with a good group of friends.
