Melanie Brown, a.k.a. Spice Girl Mel B, has never been shy when it comes to cleavage. (Fun fact: there is an entire Facebook group dedicated to her cleavage. Alas, it only has nine members.) But she’s taken her love of “boobs” to a whole new level, going topless in a new campaign to promote breast cancer awareness.

The picture you see to your right is featured in the latest UK edition of Cosmopolitan. Joined by her husband Stephen Belafonte, Scary Spice replicates Janet Jackson’s legendary Rolling Stone cover for the charity CoppaFeel!, in advance of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month. In one word… Spicy!

But it’s the accompanying interview that’s particularly interesting and full of fun tidbits about Mel B and the Spice Girls themselves. We highlight three things we learned.

1. The Spice Girls love to cop a feel: “I love boobs,” Mel B confessed in the interview. “Me and the other Spice Girls are always having a feel of each others’ — Geri came up behind me and grabbed mine the other day.” This was a missed opportunity, Cosmopolitan. Ginger Spice should have been defending Scary’s modesty, not Belafonte.

2. Belafonte performs routine breast exams for his wife: “I’m a boob man so I had absolutely no problem doing this shoot or helping my wife check her breasts.”

3. Mel B probably embarrasses her daughter: “I have three daughters and one stepdaughter so I’ll show them as they get older,” she said. “My eldest, Phoenix, 13, does it already.” While I commend Phoenix for performing breast exams, I do pity the fact that this was revealed in an international magazine.

All kidding aside, Mel B does have a personal investment in this health issue. “I found a lump when I was 17 and freaked out,” she admitted. “It turned out it was nothing but it terrified me. Ever since, I’ve always been one for checking, then double checking.”
