After years spent running away from sheets of green fabric that would later be turned into giant robot cars from the moon, Shia LaBeouf, 26, has decided it’s time to get serious. In a series of recent interviews, the Transformers star revealed that he’s adopted a Method-like approach to his movie-like projects. The actor gained 40 pounds for Lawless and sipped moonshine on the set of the Prohibition-era drama. And for the upcoming The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, he even dropped acid. ”Sometimes, it does get real,” LaBeouf admitted to USA Today about the drug trip. ”Too real for a [director] who’s trying to keep a diplomatic set.” LaBeouf — who follows in the Method footsteps of actors like Marlon Brando, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Mickey Rourke — even revealed he’d be up for performing unsimulated sex in Lars von Trier‘s upcoming Nymphomaniac. (He landed the gig by sending in a homemade sex tape, he quipped to Chelsea Handler.) In the meantime, LaBeouf continues to prepare for his next role: a young actor desperately searching for credibility. He’s even grown a scraggly beard. What dedication!
