Gabby Giffords made an inspirational appearance at the Democratic National Convention last night. The former Arizona congresswoman, who was shot in the head by an assassin in January 2011, took the stage to great cheers and tears as she began yesterday’s proceedings with the Pledge of Allegiance. Accompanied on stage by DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Giffords delivered the words that every American student knows by heart, with great concentration and, upon completion, great pride. “Not a dry eye here either,” said ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “Hard to maintain any objectivity watching Gabby Giffords say that pledge.”
