'Sons of Anarchy' creator developing FX comedy
Look who’s revving up his engine to create a comedy?
Kurt Sutter, the mastermind behind FX’s drama Sons of Anarchy, has sold a comedy script to FX dubbed Diva. Clown. Killer. The script is described by the network as a “dark, absurd comedy about an 80’s has-been rock diva, her dysfunctional son who makes his living as kid’s party clown, and of course, an assassin.” Hmm, sounds about right for Sutter.
SOA star (and Sutter’s wife) Katey Sagal will executive produce the project, along with Belle Zwerdling. “I look at SOA as being an intense drama, where the murder and mayhem are made palatable by absurd, dark humor,” Sutter said in a statement. “This half-hour will be an absurd, dark comedy, where the story is fueled by murder and mayhem.”
Should FX order the script to pilot, Sutter will hire some to serve as its show runner so he can focus on SOA. The comedy may star Sagal, depending upon her availability.
SOA, meanwhile, returns to FX on Sept. 11.
