Big Fish is headed to Chicago!

The new musical, based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the 2003 movie of the same name, will have its pre-Broadway world premiere at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre for a five-week run beginning April 2, 2013.

Big Fish is directed and choreographed by Tony winner Susan Stroman. The show will star Norbert Leo Butz as Edward Bloom. Butz won a 2011 Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in Catch Me If You Can. He was also the original Fiyero in Wicked.

Big Fish was originally supposed to open on Broadway this past spring. At this time, it’s not clear when the show will move to NYC, although Playbill.com reports that the new plan is for the show to swim to Broadway sometime next season.
