Hansel and Gretel

  • Movie

What ever happened to Hansel and Gretel — the brother and sister who were abandoned by their father and lured to a candy-coated house in the forest? In the world envisioned by Tommy Wirkola, the Norwegian filmmaker who directed the 2009 Nazi zombie movie Dead Snow, the duo (Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) has enhanced their witch-killing methods with high-powered weaponry and now pay the bills as a pair of supernatural exterminators.

The trailer seems to relish its… je ne sais quoi — to the extent that it’s difficult to believe Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson are not involved. Gretel head-butts a incalcitrant local (Peter Stormare) and Hansel dodges arrows the way The Matrix‘s Neo eluded bullets. It’s just what the Brothers Grimm always envisioned!

Plus, the smoke monster from Lost almost makes an appearance! Watch below.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is due in early 2013.
