Every great story has a hero and a villain, and the vast majority of stories are told from the hero’s point of view. And yet, it is only natural to wonder what those same stories would look like from the villain’s perspective. Indeed, many of the most important works in our cultural history adopt the point of view of the antagonist: Think of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, or John Gardner’s Grendel, or Gregory Maguire’s Wicked, or Nintendo’s nihilistic masterpiece Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. To that list we can now add Bad Piggies, the upcoming spinoff to Rovio’s ludicrously successful videogame Angry Birds.

According to Fast Company, Bad Piggies will follow the misadventures of the familiar evil green egg-stealing pigs, who find themselves on a desert island, and the only way they can escape is to use primitive game mechanics dressed up in cartoonish visuals in order to appeal to people who never play videogames build stuff. Personally, I was hoping that the game would be a more direct spin-off from Angry Birds, and that the game would be about a bunch of pigs sitting in unnecessarily flimsy structures waiting for aggro-kamikaze waterfowl to rain death upon them. But maybe Rovio is saving that plotline for their upcoming spinoff Off-Broadway play, Piggycrantz and Guildenpiggy are Dead.

Bad Piggies launches September 27.
