Judging from the baggy suits he’s worn at this week’s Republican National Convention, Paul Ryan still hasn’t found a good tailor — why put in all those hours sweating to your P90X DVDs only to hide the rippling results under ill-fitting gabardine? — but let’s turn our attention to the first ladies of the Republican party.

Or rather, let’s turn them against each other in our RNC Fashion Face-Off.

On Tuesday night, Ann Romney made an appearance in a $1,990 dress from Oscar de la Renta’s pre-Fall collection. Romney’s red silk taffeta ensemble drew comparisons to Nancy Regan — who loved the color red and often wore de la Renta’s designs — and its four-figure price tag raised a few eyebrows.

Janna Ryan made a more frugal sartorial choice on Wednesday, wearing a $169 emerald sheath from Talbots. Brands like J. Crew have seen items worn by First Lady Michelle Obama sell out in minutes, will Ryan’s affordable dress spark a similar frenzy?
