High school mean girls: Who's the worst? Vote in our poll
Who could force you to eat all your lunches in the bathroom? Regina George? Darla Marks?
In honor of back-to-school season, PopWatch got to thinking about some of our favorite high school mean girls from the movies. The character is a mainstay in films depicting high school life, and if you’ve spent your teenage years inside an education building of any kind, chances are that at one point or another, you’ve felt personally victimized by Regina George — or at least your school’s equivalent.
Does Rachel McAdams’ star-making turn get your vote, or do you prefer Kim Walker in Heathers? Of course we can’t forget the incestuous, totally NSFW cruelty of Sarah Michelle Gellar in Cruel Intentions or the sickly-sweet exterior of Mandy Moore’s character in the religious satire Saved!. And there are plenty more 17-year-olds that we’re totally afraid of (a bucket of pig’s blood comes to mind!)
Check out the videos below to jog your memory on our nominations for the worst, and then vote in the poll. We’ve never seen so many people we wanted to get hit by a bus.
Regina George, Mean Girls
Mean and Memorable Moment: There are so many to choose from — what can we say? It’s like we’re obsessed with her. But we think her Planned Parenthood takedown of Taylor Weddell at the mall is the most brutal.
Heather Chandler, Heathers
Mean and Memorable Moment: “You were nothing before you met me. You were playing Barbies with Betty Finn. You were a Bluebird. You were a Brownie. You were a Girl Scout Cookie.” Or is another Heather your favorite?
Hilary Faye, Saved!
(Side note: Let’s not forget how cruel Mandy Moore was to Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries as well)
Mean and Memorable Moment: Hilary Faye: “The Christian thing to do? I have been doing the CHRISTIAN THING my whole life! I did not have sex with a gay and try to blame it on Jesus!
Mary: Hilary Faye…
Hilary Faye: Oh, shut up, you fornicator!”
Kathryn Merteuil, Cruel Intentions
Mean and Memorable Moment: Sarah Michelle Gellar shined as Merteuil, one-half of the most creepy, disturbing, and privileged step-sibling duo you’ll ever meet. Poor, sweet, Annette (Reese Witherspoon) wins in the end, but we couldn’t take our eyes off Gellar’s Merteuil, no matter what she was saying.
Sharpay Evans, High School Musical
Mean and Memorable Moment: Sure, she’s doesn’t hit the cruelty level of some of the others on this list — she was singing with the whole gang by the end, after all — but for anyone who had to deal with a full-time drama queen in high school, Ashley Tisdale’s Sharpay rang a bell. Don’t get between her and what she wants — you’ll get an angry pop number sung right to your face. Jazz hands included.
Christie Masters, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
Mean and Memorable Moment: A-Group leader Christie Masters (Julia Campbell) tortured Romy and Michele in high school, and, alleged post-it note inventors or not, isn’t going to stop years later. But one of the meanest moment has to be back in high school, when Masters stuck magnets to Michele’s back brace. We’re cringing just thinking about it.
Chris Hargensen, Carrie
Mean and Memorable Moment: Is there any question? The ringleader of the mean girls had no idea who she was messing with (and definitely got what was coming to her in the end), but seriously, do we have to spell it out? Pig blood! Prom! The horror!
Darla Marks, Dazed and Confused
Mean and Memorable Moment: It’s a common (and true!) stereotype that seniors pick on/haze the freshmen, but never have we had such serious flashbacks as Parker Posey’s turn as Queen Bee Darla Marks. Air raid!
Who would you least like to face in a dark school hallway? Vote below.
