Shooting EW’s covers at The Walking Dead‘s Atlanta prison set offered a home-field advantage: Monster-makeup master Greg Nicotero and his team were on hand to apply dirt, decay, and their top secret fake-blood recipe. ”It was the one shoot I worked on where we made people uglier,” says photo editor Michele Romero. The cast’s music picks also helped them get into character: Andrew Lincoln came alive to ”N—-s in Paris” by Jay-Z and Kanye West, while Danai Gurira got into the groove with Madonna’s ”What It Feels Like for a Girl.”
