Top 50 most-watched programs this summer
Watching Howard Stern on a talent show may not have compared to the sight of the USA men’s swimming team right before they jumped into a London pool. But NBC’s America’s Got Talent still managed to keep the nation away from cable (or the great outdoors) this summer.
Here is the list of the 50 most-watched regular programs on the Big Four networks this summer from May 25 to Aug. 12, the most up-to-date numbers available. (Sorry, CW, we can’t see you ever making the cut!). Naturally, some shows rank a littler higher in certain demographic races than they do in the total viewer race; for instance, originals of Big Brother do much better than repeats of NCIS among adults 18-49 during the dog days. But this list gives a good indication of what shows live up to the true notion of a broadcast network program — i.e. a series that can attract the widest amount of people, even when they’re just in reruns.
It also shows how Ryan Lochte and his fellow swimming studs did a total solid for AGT by providing a nifty lead-in during the month of August.
