Another day, another casting announcement for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Actress Maria Howell (The Blind SideThe Vampire Diaries) will take on the role of Seeder, a former Hunger Games winner from District 11. Unlike several of the former Hunger Games champions, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) takes a liking to Seeder the moment they meet, when Seeder gives Katniss vital information about the families of Rue and Thresh.

The Atlanta-based Howell has also appeared on TBS’ Meet the Browns and House of Payne; she will next star on NBC’s fall TV hopeful Revolution. Her first role was as the church choir soloist in 1985’s The Color Purple.

Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) will begin shooting Catching Fire this fall.
