Rob K. Silverstein: What did you do today?
In London for the Olympics, the ''Access Hollywood'' exec producer kept up with the games, the headlines, and the time difference on a recent Wednesday
7 a.m. Wake up; scan British papers
My home schedule, I get up at 4 a.m. I go to sleep between 9 and 10 p.m. I go to sleep a lot later [in London].
8 a.m. Discuss the latest news with producers during breakfast
The [tabloids] had a crazy headline about how [Simon Cowell’s] ex-girlfriend signed a nondisclosure deal with Celebrity Big Brother, but she couldn’t help talking about Simon’s sex life. I knew [Access anchor] Billy Bush and [correspondent] Michelle Beadle would have a riot talking about that.
9 a.m. Head to the NBC compound in London
9:45 a.m. Call with Billy Bush
Billy had a shoot with all the Olympic gymnasts. We talk about that shoot and what we want to ask them.
10:15 a.m. Decide what goes into the show; start writing
We’re trying to get Michael Phelps on camera, but he couldn’t do anything today because he had races. But we’ll get his mom.
1:30 p.m. Break for lunch
I grab something healthy, usually grilled chicken and tomatoes and cucumbers with balsamic vinegar. I monitor what [the producers] eat to make sure they’re not eating fish and chips. Anything fried is banned.
2 p.m. Tweak the show
[We found out] Boris Johnson, London’s mayor, not only was stuck in a zip line, but he just about fell asleep at beach volleyball. So I added that in.
4:30 p.m. Tape Access
I am two feet from the talent, working on making sure that everything’s right. We had some trouble because it was windy, so we had some audio issues.
6 p.m. Approve scripts
I’m also starting to look to tomorrow’s show.
9:30 p.m. Enjoy a drink
We all walk outside and we have a Heineken.
11 p.m. Soak in the Olympics
I’m going to take the crew over to beach volleyball. That’ll end around midnight. Then we start over once again.
