Get your hotpants (or meat dress!) ready — Lady Gaga has announced that her upcoming third album will be called ARTPOP. “Make sure when writing about my new album/project ARTPOP that you CAPITALIZE the title, *its all in the details*” the singer tweeted.

Message received, Gaga. ARTPOP doesn’t yet have a release date, though presumably the album will drop sometime in 2013. The singer/provocateur tweeted the news yesterday, following up an earlier twitpic of the word “artpop” tattooed on her arm.

Judging an album by its title falls squarely into the “don’t judge a book by its cover” camp, but I can’t help but have more than a few thoughts on the one word. For one thing, it obviously calls to mind Andy Warhol’s famous pop art, and many of Gaga’s outfits seem incredibly Warhol-inspired. I also wonder if the title has anything to do with the LittleMonsters.com collaborative artwork she’s been pushing recently.

On a hopeful note, ARTPOP sounds like it could be a return to dance-pop form for the singer, or it could imply a more high-minded third go-round. PopWatchers will obviously have to wait and see if the album is more The Fame or Born This Way.

As for me, I just want my goofy Gaga back.
