The Watch

This passing mess of a comedy about four mismatched guys in a neighborhood patrol who end up fighting gooey aliens shows stylistic stress fractures where the story was reshaped over time: First it was supposed to be a PG-13 Ghostbusters thing, and then it became an R-rated guy thing in which grown men sit around saying smutty stuff about their junk. And then each learns something valuable. No one lifts a finger comedically or dramatically here — except maybe poor, lovely Rosemarie DeWitt, playing Ben Stiller’s wife as gamely as she can. C-
