The ultimate Olympian playlist: What the U.S. athletes listen to when they work out
From soccer players jamming to pop anthems and rowers pulling to hip-hop favorites, to gymnasts coming down with Bieber fever, some of our favorite Olympians are also becoming our workout mix DJs during these Games. We asked athletes from a variety of sports what’s on their iPods in London. Below, check out some of their favorites and listen to the whole playlist on Spotify.
U.S. Rower Giuseppe Lanzone says he mostly works out to house music, “Something with good rhythm.” Lanzone, along with swimmer Ricky Berens, both picked Avicci’s “Levels” as a favorite.
Diver David Boudia said he has a special playlist just for the competition. “I start out with the Dubstep remix of [AC/DC’s] “Thunderstruck,” and then I build in some Jack Johnson and Michael Bublé to kind of calm me down after the dive.”
Women’s soccer ace Megan Rapinoe is a big fan of England’s own Florence + The Machine, especially the song “Shake it Out.” “It’s about no regrets, putting it all out there, just shake the devils off your back a little bit. Not that I really have devils, but, it’s just kind of a pump up good beat to it. And her voice is just out of this world,” she said.
