Olympic Stud of the Day: Michael Phelps, the 'most decorated' Olympian in history
Could it be anyone else?
We promise tomorrow’s Stud will NOT be a swimmer, but as the above merman just became “The Most Decorated Olympian of All Time,” this was a no-brainer. He’s now won 19 medals. That’s 19 pieces of flair!
In the 200 Fly, his favorite event, Phelps “settled for silver” (Andrea Kremer’s fave term — what’s her damage anyway?) after getting out-touched via a last-second half-stroke (his own move!) by South African total cutie Chad le Clos. He later teamed up with Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, and Ricky Berens in the 4×200 Free Relay to win GOLD. And the U.S. coaches even threw him in the pool last — an unprecedented move; Phelps has never anchored a relay — likely so that he could get a better photo op for #19. Everyone looks More Decorated when surrounded by bubbles.
Bob Costas did a special satellite interview with Phelps about his new title. Not to be outdone at the Olympics, the leader of the free world — or maybe his dog — took to Twitter to congratulate the merman.
Michael Phelps’ mom, who thought she was in the running for ‘Most Decorated,’ has yet to officially comment on this stunning new development.
We should applaud Phelps’ family, his delightfully twisted coach Bob Bowman, and perhaps most importantly Head and Shoulders’ HydraZinc formula for their roles in his achievement.
Congratulations to the greatest Olympian of all time. Those flashbacks were KILLER.
