It’s Alvin and the Chipmunks with only one chipmunk, and (if possible) even less fun. In an Easter variation on a bad high-concept Christmas movie, E.B. (Russell Brand), a rascally rabbit who’s reluctant to assume his role as the next Easter Bunny, escapes from his family’s chocolate-egg factory on Easter Island (are you laughing yet?) and lands in L.A. There he makes life unbearable for fellow slacker Fred (James Marsden, who looks like James Franco, but in this thankless part has none of Franco’s captivating quirks). E.B. just wants to play rock & roll, but how can you build an entire movie around Russell Brand as a naughty-cute rebel bunny — and then fail to give him a single good line? The makers of Hop have done it. D
