The dolefully talented actor Martin Donovan wrote, directed, and stars in a pressure-cooker two-hander. He plays a wrung-out playwright, and David Morse is the alcoholic right-wing nutjob who takes him hostage in a San Fernando Valley ranch house while escaping the cops. Donovan, acting with ironic reserve, hands the movie to Morse, who makes his character the kind of crank you can care about just because he’s so abysmally lost. (Also available on VOD) B-
