We thought more viewers would be curious about this one: The series premiere of Fox’s The Choice won the 9 p.m. hour in the ratings Thursday night, though its performance was firmly modest.

The Choice, where four celebrity bachelors select eligible females, had 4.2 million viewers and a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating (here’s Annie Barrett’s take). The Choice, hosted by Cat Deeley, did better than the network’s other new studio-based dating show, 8 p.m.’s Take Me Out, hosted by George Lopez. The debut of Take Me Out, where bachelors try to impress a panel of single women, had only 3.3 million viewers and a 1.3 rating.

Both Fox shows managed to beat the third episode of ABC’s singing competition series Duets (5.2 million, 1.2), which dipped 20 percent in the adult demo from last week.
