The battle for official song of the summer is narrowing to a handful of candidates, including Carly Rae Jepsen’s inescapable “Call Me Maybe” (which even enraptures the animal kingdom) and Usher’s still-climbing “Scream.”

With one chart topper already under their collective belt, the three dudes from Fun. have upped the ante on their entry into the summer-song regatta — dropping the video for the “We Are Young” follow-up “Some Nights,” their infectious second single from the album of the same name.

The action — directed by Anthony Mandler (Nicki Minaj’s “Starships,” Jay-Z’s “Run This Town,” and all the best Rihanna clips) — takes place on a battlefield that evokes the Civil War (if that was the intention, then mission accomplished!). Muskets fire, men fall, maidens weep, and somebody plays a strap-on xylophone in the middle of battle.

When our annual summer-jam jukebox jury convened in our recent Summer Music Preview, rapper Common said of the song, “It reminds me of something you might hear when you go to the theater — maybe [long-running Broadway smash] The Lion King.” He meant it as a compliment, and we don’t disagree.

But you tell us, readers — does “Some Nights” smell like a hit on the scale of “We Are Young”?
