George Will calls Donald Trump a 'bloviating ignoramus'
Mitt Romney is taking a lot of heat for appearing with Donald Trump at a campaign fundraiser on May 29. On May 27, conservative pundit George Will questioned the wisdom of such a move and didn’t pull any punches in insulting Trump, who’s continued to raise the birther issue about President Obama. “I do not understand the cost-benefit here,” Will said on ABC’s This Week. “The costs are clear. The benefit — what voter is going to vote for him because he is seen with Donald Trump? The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious, it seems to me. Donald Trump is redundant evidence that if your net worth is high enough, your IQ can be very low and you can still intrude into American politics.”
Bloviating ignoramus?!
Fortunately, Trump took the high road — which as you all know, is much better for throwing stones and insults at an adversary. “George Will may be the dumbest(and most overrated) political commentator of all time,” Trump tweeted on May 27. “If the Republicans listen to him, they will lose.”
Two days later, Trump hasn’t calmed down, tweeting, “Losers such as George Will and Rosie [O’Donnell] use me to get publicity for themselves. They are strictly third rate.” Trump saved the best for last: “George Will totally ‘bombed’ at The Mar-a-Lago Club. I was there to watch. He was embarrassed and no longer likes Donald Trump.”
Gasp! Bombed!? At the Mar-a-Lago Club!? That’s low. But also genius — even Trump’s insults manage to self-promote his real-estate properties! It’s unclear exactly which event he’s referring to, though Will had spoken to an elite audience at Trump’s opulent Palm Beach club back in 1995. Would an ignoramus have remembered that! Point to the bloviator.
George Will has not yet responded to Trump’s latest attacks. Because, you know, there’s simply no coming back from the Mar-a-Lago crack.
