Sherlock returns tonight for a second season on PBS’ Masterpiece. Before the first series premiered, I had been dubious: A modern Sherlock Holmes, adapting to new technology with a Watson who blogged the Great Detective exploits? That seemed dubious.

But as always, one should never judge a TV show by its concept. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, under the guidance of Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, proved to be marvelous incarnations of these literary characters. Here’s my video preview of tonight’s episode:

I’ll be back later this evening with a full prose review of tonight’s premiere.
