It’s entirely possible that Nicki Minaj’s “Starships,” the RedOne-produced single from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, will be the anthem of the summer –so it makes sense that Minaj has worked up a beach-centric video for th etrack.

In typical Minaj fashion, “Starships” is full of bright colors, fast cuts, and lots of spastic movement meant to mirror her rap flow (which, it should be noted, is largely absent from this particular song). Perhaps the biggest headline-grabber is the fact that Minaj spends the bulk of the clip writhing around in the sand in a skimpy bikini. Watch it below.

Since “Starships” is the anchor of the pop-centric half of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (the same sequence of songs I suggested could be immediately jettisoned from iTunes in my review of the album), it’s only appropriate that Minaj adopt the look and feel of a more traditional pop video.

Save for the wacky hair, this could have been done by Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears, and based on what we’ve heard, that seems to be exactly what Minaj wants us to think.

Readers, what’s your take on “Starships”?
