HBO’s Sunday night ratings are in: Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ new comedy series Veep opened to fair 1.7 million viewers for the night (when combining its two airings of 1.4 million viewers and 296,000 viewers).

Veep, which also garnered strong reviews from critics, was up 34 percent in comparison to the Eastbound and Down‘s average audience and is firmly a bigger start than last week’s other new acclaimed HBO comedy Girls.

Speaking of, Girls (858,000 and 257,000) was steady with 1.1 million viewers across two airings.

While the fourth episode of this year’s Game of Thrones (recap here) was yet again steady, delivering 3.7 million for its first airing and 4.6 million overall (actually up just a tick in the overall total from last week, in fact). Season to date, Thrones is averaging a whopping 10.4 million views on all HBO platforms.
