The details are unclear, but it sounds like the gang from The Avengers is teaming up for one last job.

The movie comes out May 4, but at a press conference yesterday Robert Downey Jr. made reference to the actors getting together that evening. “We’re actually not done shooting,” Downey told the crowd. “We’re shooting one more scene tonight.” Amid the shock, he added: “I’m not kidding.”

The response from Marvel Studio’s Kevin Feige and writer-director Joss Whedon: He’s kidding. But, of course, multiple EW sources confirm that he was not.

Meanwhile, Mark Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk’s human alter-ego Bruce Banner, told The Playlist that the cast — which is all together for the film’s junket — would indeed be getting together to shoot a small sequence, but he didn’t know what it would be.

Marvel Studios declined to comment to EW, but sources confirm it’s not a joke, though it’s still unclear whether it would be for an extra scene in The Avengers movie or merely an in-house greeting for theater owners at the upcoming CinemaCon convention or some other kind of clip.

Three weeks before the debut, it would still be possible to insert a small piece into The Avengers — say, at the end of the credits — though that doesn’t leave much time if special effects need to be created for it (and most of Downey’s Iron Man suit, for example, is digitally rendered). Iron Man 3, which is due in theaters next May, begins shooting in about a month, so this may simply be for an Avengers cameo in that movie — which would also explain the desire to keep it hush-hush.

Those in a wagering mood, however, may want to put money on a bonus post-credits sequence in The Avengers.
