It’s less G.I. Jane and more In the Army Now, but Katy Perry’s new pop-military video for “Part of Me” is still an intense ride.

It begins as a sort of indie flick, with Perry sitting in her car and watching a crappy boyfriend flirt with someone at his work. Livid and emotionally fragile, Perry runs off and does what anyone with a broken heart would do: join the Marines in wartime.

And Perry goes all out for the video. As she told MTV, where the video premiered last night, the singer went through rigorous boot camp training, consumed MRE rations (“They tasted like a McRib!”), and started using the word “bro.”

The song is the lead single off of Perry’s rereleased album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, out March 26. Give it a spin with the video below and let us know what you think in the comments, bro:
