Katy Perry: dig at Beyonce?
Don’t expect Katy Perry to pay tribute to Beyonce anytime soon. Though the singer just performed a cover of Kanye and Jay Z’s “N—s in Paris,” when it comes to Jay’s better half, she’s apparently got some reservations.
The same day Perry performed her rendition of the track during a visit to BBC Radio 1, she purportedly made a dig at Beyonce and Shakira’s 2007 hit “Beautiful Liar.” Perry let her feelings about the song slip while discussing a possible collaboration with Rihanna.
“We’ve collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet. It’s one of those things that’s got so much build-up that we have to deliver. I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” not “Beautiful Liar,” Perry apparently told BBC Radio 1. “But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic. Rihanna’s kind of busy too. We’re both busy but we planted the seed two years ago. How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it’s no good? Sometimes you have to wait for greatness.”
This isn’t the first time Perry’s comments have stirred up speculations of a feud. In 2010, shortly following the debut of Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro” video, Katy tweeted, “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.” Many speculated the message was aimed at Gaga.
Perry later told EW that the tweet wasn’t meant to be an attack on Gaga’s video, but rather a “more of a non-specific, general thing. But everybody made it out to be a cat fight. I think people love cat fights. It’s a turn-on for people.”
Do you think Katy and Bey are on the brink of a feud? Or do you think Perry’s comments are being blown out of proportion yet again?
