On tonight’s episode of Low Expectations Theater, we introduce NBC’s new reality series Fashion Star.

The 90-minute premiere telecast drew 4.6 million viewers and a 1.6 preliminary rating in the adult demo. Up against a CBS repeat and ABC underachiever Body of Proof (7.3 million, 1.4) at 10 p.m., that was enough to lead its time slot. It’s a bit like somebody winning the 500-Yard Dash by walking. Fashion Star also dropped from its Biggest Loser (6 million,2.0) lead-in.

Otherwise, Fox tied CBS and NBC in a rare three-way split for first place in the adult demo. Fox’s four comedies were all down from last week, with drops ranging from 10 to 19 percent: Raising Hope (4.3 million, 1.8), Teenage Daughter (3.5 million, 1.3), New Girl (5.7 million, 2.7) and Breaking In (3.5 million, 1.5 … I always want to write this show as Breakin’ In, not sure why).

On ABC, Cougar Town (4.4 million, 1.4) fell another 7 percent to rank as its lowest telecast ever, with a similar story for The River (4.1 million, 1.3), though the horror thriller fell 13 percent.

On CW, 90210 (1.2 million, 0.6) and Ringer (1.1 million, 0.4) both slipped.
