DISAPPEARING ACT Amanda Seyfried in Gone
Credit: Saeed Adyani

A year after escaping the clutches of a never-caught homicidal maniac, night-shift waitress Jill Parrish (Amanda Seyfried) returns home to discover her sister (Emily Wickersham) is missing. Has the psycho kidnapped her sibling? Or has he always just been a figment of Jill’s troubled mind? These questions hold the attention for the first half of Gone, assisted by Heitor Dhalia’s fat-free direction and Seyfried’s evocative saucer-eyes. But by the end, viewers may be left pondering a different query: Which stinks worse? The absurdly large pile of red herrings Gone amasses? Or the film’s sub-Scooby Doo conclusion? C+
