NBC is hot on the trail for its next male sitcom star, and has set its sights on a (fine-looking) dude best known for his fratboy sense of humor.

Comic-turned-feature film actor Dane Cook (Dan in Real Life) will headline the NBC comedy pilot Next Caller Please, a single-camera comedy in the works for fall that focuses on a brash alpha-male DJ and his new, plucky, feminist cohost, set in the offices of a satellite radio station.

The comedy is from Stephen Falk, Universal Television and Lionsgate Television.

NBC’s been hunting for a suitable role for Cook ever since last fall, when it signed him to a holding deal. This would mark Cook’s first foray into leading man territory on broadcast TV. He guest-starred on Hawaii 5-0 last year along with an episode of Louie. And then he’s got those film credits, like Mr. Brooks, My Best Friend’s Girl, and Employee of the Month.
