'How I Met Your Mother': Karma's a b----
As usual, karma has played games with me. Except, in this case, karma isn’t the karma. Karma’s a girl.
You see, I thought I was going to love Quinn on How I Met Your Mother. What’s there to hate about Becki Newton!? Well, turns out there was more than I expected. And then, I suddenly liked her again.
Quit playing games with my heart! (Now that I’ve made a Backstreet Boys reference, let’s continue with the mini-recap. Don’t read on if you haven’t seen the episode.) Quinn’s introduction two weeks ago was great, especially the end twist that revealed she was a stripper. This week, a new piece of the puzzle: Her stripper name was Karma, who, among other things, had questionable morals. She was here to play with Barney’s heart, I thought. (She led him on and fooled him into paying to spend time with her. Oh, strippers.)
No. Just, no, I told myself. Barney’s been through enough this season — not the least of which was being rejected by Robin. And now, I thought, the show was setting up another sad plotline where Barney would be hurt, wear that kicked puppy look on his face, and follow all that up with some heartfelt statement using that sincere Barney voice that kills me every time. I wanted to look away and weep for the future sadness that would undoubtedly come to him. Thankfully, I didn’t look away.
By the end of the episode, Barney stood up to Quinn’s manipulations and, as chance would have it, ran into her at a coffee shop shortly after, where he again gave her a piece of his mind. This time, she admitted her wrongdoing, called him out on his own wrongdoings. (He’d seen her many times and never remembered her.) Then she bought him a cup of coffee. Awww. I’ll drink to new possibilities, readers!
Meanwhile, it was an important episode for Ted and Robin — and Lily and Marshall for that matter. Most of all, it was big for our apartment! (Yes, it’s our apartment.) And the moment brought a tear to my eye. (Could that have been the “big change” Craig Thomas hinted to me earlier? I think so! And I love it.)
But your full recap will cover that. Sound off on the episode!
