David Cross admits he snorted cocaine at the White House
Here’s something President Obama won’t want to sing about: In a new interview with Playboy, comedic actor David Cross admits to snorting cocaine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2009 while only 65 feet away from President Obama.
“It was just about being able to say that I did it, that I did cocaine in the same room as the president. I’m not proud of it, nor am I ashamed of it,” he confessed, seemingly legitimizing it by saying the amount he ingested was only the size of “a tick.”
“It was a tiny granule of coke that I put on my wrist and said, “Watch this. I need a witness.” And then I ducked under the table and did it. It wasn’t like I got high,” he says in the interview.
Shockingly enough, Cross did have one regret about his decision: That his fiancée, actress Amber Tamblyn, received backlash from the farce despite having no idea what Cross planned to do. “She had nothing to do with it,” he says. “And because of that she’ll never be invited to the White House again. That’s not cool.”
In the interview (out in Playboy‘s March issue), Cross also explains why he was kicked out of a Jim Belushi concert (the two have a long-standing feud) and his penchant for getting nude in public places.
Based on his recent outbursts of candidness, the Arrested Development star seems determined to stir up as much controversy as possible. Back in December, he told IndieWire.com that working on Alvin and the Chipmunks was “the most miserable experience I’ve ever had in my professional life.” He continued his rant weeks later while appearing on Conan, stating that the film was like “a big commercial for Carnival Cruise lines.” As the current star of IFC’s The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, one can only wonder when he’ll stick his own project under the gun.
